According to him, youth unemployment remains one of the most pressing challenges confronting Ghana, despite the country’s vast potential in sectors such as agriculture, agribusiness, manufacturing, technology, and entrepreneurship.

Mr. Quartey stressed that governments must focus on creating an enabling environment that supports business growth, attracts investment, and encourages young people to venture into productive sectors of the economy.

He noted that agriculture, in particular, offers significant opportunities for youth employment if adequate support systems, access to finance, modern technology, training, and market access are made available.

“Our young people are energetic, innovative, and ready to work. What they need is practical support, skills development, and policies that create opportunities for them to succeed,” he said.

The agribusiness entrepreneur further called for stronger collaboration between government institutions, the private sector, and development partners to develop programmes that deliver measurable outcomes rather than short-term interventions.

He emphasized that sustainable economic growth cannot be achieved without empowering the next generation and creating pathways for meaningful participation in the economy.

Industry analysts have consistently identified youth unemployment as a major development challenge, with many experts advocating for increased investment in job creation, entrepreneurship, vocational training, and agribusiness development.

Mr. Quartey’s comments reflect growing calls from business leaders and civil society actors for greater accountability and implementation of policies aimed at improving the lives of young people.

The remarks were made during a wide-ranging discussion on entrepreneurship, agriculture, youth empowerment, and national development on Adwinton Business Hour, a programme dedicated to exploring solutions to Ghana’s economic and business challenges.
